Remembering Dad by Kathleen Ann Gallagher

From Christina: When I first learned that Kathleen Ann Gallagher’s father was a professional magician…well, I know envy is wrong, but, yep, I was a tad bit envious. I’ve always loved magic shows, and the thought of having a magical father makes me a bit giddy.  I asked Kathleen if she’d share him with  us for Father’s Day.  I’m so glad she accepted the invitation.

Remembering Dad

~ By Kathleen Ann Gallagher ~

Magical FatherMy father was a wonderful man and an inspiration to me. He was a talented and unique individual, and he taught me to pursue the things I wanted in life with passion. Dad was a professional magician, a hypnotist, and a tap dancer. His goal was to help people forget about their troubles and escape into the fascinating world of magic. On occasion he’d let me help out in the show. My favorite part of the act was when he made a woman float in mid-air. Once I got to be his assistant, and it was awesome. Most of the time I helped set up the stage and assisted in the care of his beautiful white doves. Obstacles didn’t discourage him. He’d come up with a plan and always see the bright side of things. His positive outlook on life was contagious, and I try to remember his fighting spirit during times of stress. Dad’s kindness and generosity showed in everything he did. If someone needed a shoulder to lean on, he’d be there for them. I remember the day a friend confined in him about his fear of having dental work. My dad accompanied the man to the dentist and offered support in his time of need. He used hypnosis and positive affirmations to help him relax. Father’s Day is a time to pay tribute to the many giving and loving fathers in our lives. Even though my dad is no longer with me, I’ll never forget his smile and the sound of his laughter. His zest for life and desire to entertain will forever live on in my heart, and it helps remind me to never give up on my dreams. Thank you, Dad!

A Time for Renewal by Kathleen Gallagher

From Christina: I love spring. I especially love getting outside to dig around a bit and plant my favorite herbs.  We have a small flower garden, too, but nothing like the beautiful landscape Kathleen’s husband created. I was thrilled when she offered to share it with readers. I’m sure you’ll find it lovely, too.

A TIME FOR RENEWAL

by Kathleen Gallagher

I know most of us are looking forward to sunshine, flowers, the smell of fresh cut grass and long walks in the park.  Spring is finally here, and it’s the time for new beginnings.

One of the things I look forward to is spending time outdoors in our backyard. My husband transformed the space into an enchanted garden.  There are winding paths, a Japanese tree, rose bushes, vibrant flowers, sea grass, and beautifully sculptured miniature trees, along with a few blue spruce trees. It reminds me of a place where the forest meets a magical garden.

Garden 1

There is an area to barbeque, various seating areas filled with wicker furniture, to relax and read a book. Tucked in a secluded area sits a hammock if we want to take a nap. A larger table and a smaller round table allow our family to enjoy time together on the weekend. Vines of Ivy lace our fence, adding greenery to the background. The birds love their houses, and they dip in and out of the tiny wooden cottages throughout the day. In the corner there’s an enclosed area where we keep the hot tub. It’s a perfect place to light a candle and unwind, while sipping a beverage.

Garden 2

Each year we add something new to our cozy hideaway. I never know what design my husband will come up with. He surprises me every time.

It’s getting closer to the big design project. I can’t wait to spend a cozy afternoon, basking in the sun with the light scent of spring flowers lingering in the air.

Supernatural Cravings by Flossie Benton Rogers

As we near the end of October, we come to that spookiest time of year, the time when things really do go bump in the night, when chill winds blow, and ghostly tales capture our imaginations. Today, author Flossie Benton Rogers shares a few thoughts of her own about the supernatural.  Please welcome her to Time for Love.

Supernatural Cravings

In the 1996 film, Tin Cup, golfer Roy McAvoy says: “I hit it again because that shot was a defining moment, and when a defining moment comes along, you define the moment…or the moment defines you.”

One of my most vivid defining moments came in 10th grade history, when Mr. McGill posited to our class, “What if 2 + 2 is not 4? What if it is really 5 but a little invisible green man tricks us each time to make us think it’s 4?” A chill shot up my spine. His point resonated with me. In a nutshell it clarified my view of life, which up to that moment had been intense in feeling but nebulous in understanding.

Yellow Moon

Flashes of memory:

A hug from a huge yellow moon.

One grandmother reading me fairy tales. Another grandmother scaring me with yarns of the Yam Potato Man.

My sister telling me ghost stories about the dead man’s shoes that walked.

Costumes, candied apples, and trick or treating at Halloween.

Sprites chattering atop my special hideaway, a fragrant orange tree.

A book where children traveled to the faraway mountains of Norway.

Fairy tale comic books, especially Snow White and Rose Red, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, East of the Sun and West of the Moon, and The Snow Queen.

I grew up knowing that life is magical. Shakespeare put it this way: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”

Is it any wonder that I have a passion for writing about imaginative worlds? How could I not explore whether 2 + 2 is really 5?

Now is the Halloween season when the veils between dimensions are thin. If you have a yen for spicy love stories and action-packed adventure, delve with me into the mysterious realms. Be prepared to catch a glimpse of a little invisible green man.
